August 18 - Painted Ladies
Painted Ladies (Bicycle Tour)
Saturday, August 18 at 10 am
Guided by Claudia and Basil Fett / Sponsored by Mike Groeber and Bicycle Revival / Mobility 3
During the revival of San Francisco in the 1960s, preservationists coined the term “Painted Ladies” to identify Victorian houses that were painted with a wide array of vivid colors. The “colorist movement” became popular across the country in the following decades, adding a splash of color to once drab historic districts. If your eyes are prepared for combinations of periwinkle and purple, red and teal, green and yellow, be sure to join us on this bicycle tour of some of Springfield’s best Painted Ladies. Meet outside the Heritage Center, 117 South Fountain Avenue, on your bicycles.
