Engaging with this sphere puzzle offers a greater understanding of how interlocking circles can create a three dimensional sphere. Wright identified the circle as a symbol of freedom and an escape from the traditional box. The circle and sphere are symbols of completion, infinity, and unity. In many of Wright’s decorative designs, he used the circle in a playful manner, as abstractions of balloons, flowers, and bubbles. The shape was further employed in his drawings of over a dozen circular, semi-circular, domed, and spiraling building structures.
