Red blossom, or Rode bloem, painted in 1830 by the Dutch artist M.de Gijselaar, depicts deep-red flowers, botanically known as Pelagorium. Its simple, open-faced, five petals and silvery leaves distinguishes this Geranium species. As a post Golden-Age Dutch painter, M.de Gijselaar continued the trend of focusing on the pleasures of painting single botanical florals.
